At last - a weekend away is planned!!
After almost two years, we have finally planned a getaway to Cape Cod on the weekend following this one coming up. For over a year, I was Mom’s caretaker. I really couldn’t take off without careful planning and even then, it couldn’t be for long. I ended up becoming homebound myself under the circumstances. But, with insurance proceeds in hand, we will be able to get away, leaving Friday afternoon and returning on Monday, giving us two full days on the Cape. I can’t wait!! I like it there - it’s just Bohemian enough to be quirky, quiet enough (there are occasional “outbursts” from the “loud and proud” who also enjoy the area), and full of enough sea resort atmosphere that I thoroughly enjoy it there. The seafood can’t be any fresher without eating it on the boat. Multiple cultures share their wares, including a family from Venezuela who has a made-to-order food booth. I love going there. They are even from where I used to live down there. The town is pet friendly, with water bowls placed strategically throughout the town for pets on leashes. Minstrels demonstrate their talents in the town square for any and all interested in listening. It’s just a great atmosphere overall. Even better is the fact that my daughter is going with us this time. She also needs a break from her normal routine. She doesn’t get vacation where she’s worked for three years - no benefits whatsoever. Her boyfriend takes off for all-guy weekends with his friends, but Deb doesn’t get that opportunity. So, this will be her chance for a little downtime. No boyfriend drama. No psycho boss coming unglued over minor issues. A definite change from the daily SOS (same old sh1t). We’re making it a long weekend for two reasons. First, it will give us the two full days instead of partial days, which aren’t relaxing at all. Second, because others won’t have the same “long weekend”, it may not be quite as crowded as it would normally be (I hope). I am so looking forward to going. I really am. I need this as much as anyone. I really do.
